Argon Gas Equipment and Services

Argon Gas Chemical PropertiesArgon is a chemical element that is the third most common gas in Earth’s atmosphere. It is produced industrially by the fractional distillation of liquid air. Argon is mostly used as an inert shielding gas in welding as well as other high-temperature industrial processes where ordinarily non-reactive substances become reactive. Argon also has uses in incandescent and fluorescent lighting; it is also recognized for the distinct blue green gas laser that it makes.

Argon is colorless, odorless and nontoxic in all of its forms. Argon is produced industrially by the fractional distillation of liquid air in a cryogenic air separation unit, a process which separates liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen. About 700,000 metric tonnes of argon are produced worldwide annually.

Argon is used in various types of arc welding such as gas metal arc welding and gas tungsten arc welding, as well as in the processing of titanium and other reactive elements. Crystals of silicon and geranium can also be grown in an argon atmosphere. It can also be used as an asphyxiate in the poultry industry, whether it is to help exterminate disease outbreaks, or as a more humane way for slaughter. It also is used to sometimes extinguish fires, especially when damage to equipment is trying to be prevented.
